This 5 Mountain Climbing Line Is Still Closed, Minister Of Forestry: For Extreme Weather Security

The Ministry of Forestry (Kemenhut) is still closing the climbing route of five mountains due to extreme weather that occurs during the rainy season.

"We announce five mountains managed by the Ministry of Forestry of Mount Gede Pangrango, Mount Halimun Salak, Mount Merapi, Mount Merbabu and Mount Rinjani with all respects climbing stopped due to extreme weather," said Minister of Forestry (Menhut) Raja Juli Antoni in Karanganyar Regency, Central Java, Friday, December 27, confiscated by Antara.

He said the temporary closure was also input from related parties, including the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG).

"Finally, climbing in the five mountains was temporarily suspended for security due to extreme weather," he said.

Furthermore, he has not been able to confirm how long the closure will be carried out.

"We will announce it when there is progress from the BMKG and the Center for Volcanology that provides recommendations," he said.

Meanwhile, he said, the momentum for the closure would be used by each hall that houses the mountains to improve the ecosystem.

He said that so far the mountain that had been reopened for climbing had been closed, namely Mount Semeru.

"I just opened the Semeru when I arrived at Ranu Kumbolo because there was a 3.5 km warning from the peak of Semeru, it was not allowed. But the conditions there were still open, followed by nature lovers," he said.
