17 Sukabumi Residents Poisoned By Mushrooms, 1 People Critical

JAKARTA - A total of 17 residents of Kebon Kalapa Village, Sukabumi Regency, were poisoned after eating mushrooms on Tuesday, December 24 evening. Seven of them had to be rushed to the hospital.

"Seven residents from 17 residents of Limusnunggal Village, Bantargadung District who were poisoned were rushed to Palabuhanratu Hospital for intensive care because their condition was weak," said Bantargadung District Disaster Management Officer (P2BK), Syihabudin in Sukabumi, Wednesday, December 25.

According to Syihabudin, of the seven victims who were undergoing treatment at the hospital, one of them was still in critical condition. Meanwhile, the other six victims gradually improved.

Then for the other 10 victims undergoing outpatient treatment and their health began to recover. "It's just that they are still weak because they have lost too much body fluids," he said.

Until now, officers from the Sukabumi District Health Office (Dinkes), Bantargadung Health Center and elements of the Bantargadung District Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimcam) are still at the location to monitor the development of this mass poisoning.

Based on the information he got, the incident of mass poisoning started when a resident who had just returned from the garden brought quite a lot of fungi and then distributed it to relatives and neighbors.

The mushrooms grew in tree trunks and leaves that began to rot. Then, residents who received the distribution of the mushrooms immediately processed them by detuning and others.

Not long after, those who ate the mushrooms felt their bodies were hot, dizzy, nauseous until some were unconscious.

"Police officers together with the Sukabumi District Health Office have taken samples of fungi consumed by the victims. Residents of Kampung Kebon Kalapa said the mushrooms were Supa Laja," he said.

The doctor on duty at the Emergency Room (IGD) of the Palabuhanratu Hospital, Dr Raditya Nugraha, said seven residents who were referred to the hospital experienced the same symptoms, namely nausea, vomiting, cold and sweating.

Of the seven victims who were treated at the Palabuhanratu Hospital, one of them was in severe shock.

Meanwhile, the condition of the other six patients undergoing treatment at the hospital is starting to improve. However, there is one patient known as Emo whose condition is still weak.

"All victims have been given special drugs to speed up recovery," he said.
