Mother's Day, Prof. Dr. Hj. Anna Mariana Calls For Women's Empowerment In The Modern Era

JAKARTA Mother's Day in 2024 is a special moment to celebrate the important role of a mother in her family, society and nation. With the theme 'Mother of Power, The Prosperous Nation', this commemoration is a reminder of the mother's great contribution to building a strong and independent generation.

Prof. Dr. Hj. Anna Mariana, Chairman of the Indonesian Community International Fashion Art & UKM (KADIIFA), also expressed her views. As an Indonesian wastra figure and senior designer, she emphasized that Mother's Day is a reflection of an infinite love, sacrifice, and the dedication of a mother.

"This moment teaches us to appreciate the role of mothers more, not only in the family, but also as individuals who contribute to society. Mother's Day is also a reminder of the importance of empowering women for the progress of the nation," said Anna, Sunday, December 22.

As Chairperson of the Papuan Women's Cendekiawan Development (CPP), Anna added that a mother not only plays a role in giving birth and caring for children, but is also an inspiration and motivation in education and the formation of character for the younger generation. Mother is the foundation of the family, where children learn about love, ethics, and morals," she continued.

According to Anna, the role of mothers now exceeds the domestic space. Today's women have the ability to bring positive changes in various sectors, including politics, governance, and the business world.

In this era of emancipation, women have started to take part in development in various fields. My hope is that Indonesian women can continue to progress, even lead countries like in several other developed countries, without forgetting their nature as mothers and wives," he explained.

Contribution In Fashion World

Anna also highlighted the significant role of a mother in the fashion world. According to her, mothers are often a role model for family and inspiration for comfortable and elegant fashion trends. Many female designers who are also mothers are able to create collections that are inclusive and relevant, support the more sustainable fashion industry," she explained.

In addition, Anna reminded that traditional Indonesian wastra, such as weaving and songket, are mostly produced by women and mothers in various regions. This industry is not only a source of income, but also a cultural heritage that must be maintained.

"Traditional wastra motifs have high historical values, art philosophy, and attraction. This product has become a global mode trend and has made a big contribution to the country's foreign exchange," he added.

Hope For The Future Of Indonesian Wastra

Anna hopes that Indonesia's traditional wastra culture will continue to be an icon of the nation's pride. She also encouraged female designers to love and develop traditional weaving-based and songket products.

"Let's continue to help traditional wastra craftsmen so that they can work and improve their welfare. Thus, this cultural heritage remains sustainable and continues to make economic contributions to Indonesia," he concluded.
