Rupiah Ahead Of Nataru Is Predicted To Be Still Above Rp. 16,000 Per US Dollar
JAKARTA - Money market observer Ariston Tjendra estimates that the rupiah exchange rate is still above Rp. 16,000 per US dollar ahead of Christmas and New Year's Day (Nataru).
The declining trade ahead of Christmas and the new year may cause the rupiah to move consolidated. The rupiah trend may still be above Rp. 16,000, unless there is a change in sentiment," said Ariston Tjendra as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, December 23.
According to Ariston, the market is currently still anticipating a tariff policy from US President-elect Donald Trump next year.
Then, other factors also include war conflicts in various parts of the world that are prolonged, and the potential for cutting US benchmark interest rates is restrained.
The rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar transacted between banks in Jakarta on Monday morning strengthened 25 points or 0.15 percent to Rp16,197 per US dollar from the previous Rp16,222 per US dollar.
Bank Indonesia's Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (JISDOR) exchange in today's trading also strengthened to the level of IDR 16,159 per US dollar from the previous IDR 16,270 per US dollar.
He revealed that the increase in the rupiah exchange rate was influenced by inflation data from the US Personal Shopping Price Index or Personal Consumption Expenditure (PCE) in November 2024, which was 0.1 percent month to month (MoM), below the previous month's 0.3 percent increase.
This morning, the US dollar index also decreased to 107.80, under Friday 20 December 2024 morning movement which amounted to 108.49.
The decline in the US dollar index came after a decline in data on US inflation indicators released on Friday, December 20, 2024.
"The US dollar reaction against the results of this US inflation data could have an impact on strengthening the rupiah today," said Ariston.
