JAKARTA The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta deployed 3,667 personnel from the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) to secure the 2024 Christmas celebrations throughout the Jakarta area. This step was taken to ensure the safety and comfort of the community when carrying out worship.

"To secure the implementation of Christmas Eve services on December 24 and Christmas Day on December 25, 2024, the DKI Jakarta Satpol PP has prepared 3,667 personnel in 674 churches in various areas of Jakarta," said Head of DKI Jakarta Satpol PP, Satriadi Gunawan, quoted by ANTRA, Sunday, December 21.

Personal distribution spread in Central Jakarta 136 churches (109,968 congregations), 775 personnel, North Jakarta 129 churches (87,515 congregations), 414 personnel, West Jakarta 130 churches (101,110 congregations), 520 personnel, South Jakarta 106 churches (124,024 congregations), 1,006 personnel, East Jakarta 173 churches (142,591 congregations), 962 personnel.

Security is carried out to detect potential security disturbances and anticipate all forms of threats during Christmas celebrations. The main focus includes securing churches that carry out worship, securing locations visited by provincial and city level officials and passing across congregants to places of worship, ensuring smooth access and security.

"Prioritize a humanist, polite, friendly, and wise attitude. Coordination with elements of the local area is very important," said Satriadi.

In addition to securing Christmas, Satpol PP personnel were also instructed to map areas prone to inundation or flooding. Village, sub-district and city-level posts are activated to ensure the readiness of equipment and personnel to deal with possible disasters.

"We must be quick to help the community in dealing with floods and inundation, if this happens," added Satriadi.

Satriadi reminded regional leaders to ensure the health and safety conditions of each personnel on duty. In addition to regulating traffic and supervising crowds, personnel are also tasked with providing a sense of security for people who carry out worship.

"Our job is to protect the community and ensure that the entire series of Christmas celebrations runs smoothly and safely," he concluded.
