PLN Indonesia Power Prepares 19 GW Power To Fill Christmas And New Year's Electricity

PT PLN Indonesia Power (PLN IP) has prepared a power plant with a net power of 19.131 gigawatts (GW) throughout Indonesia to meet electricity needs during Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025.

President Director of PLN Indonesia Power Edwin Nugraha Putra in his statement in Jakarta, Thursday, December 19, said that the power plant of all PLN IP units, spread across 107 regions of Indonesia, has a net capacity of 19,131 MW or 19,131 GW.

"PLN Indonesia Power is ready to maintain the reliability of electricity during the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year celebrations with a net power capacity of 19,131 MW," he said, quoted from Antara.

Meanwhile, PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said nationally, the peak load during the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year celebrations is projected by 39 GW with a supply capacity of 53 GW.

He also ensured that the electricity system was in a ready condition, starting from the primary energy supply, generation, transmission system, distribution system and customer service system fully supported by the PLN Group.

"The peak burden at Christmas and New Year's Eve is around 39 GW. The supply capability we have prepared is 53 GW, meaning that there is a 14 GW margin reserve," he said while leading the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year Electricity Alert Apples.

Edwin continued during the Christmas and New Year's alert period from 18 December 2024 to 8 January 2025, the corporation alerted 4,777 personnel to maintain the reliability of power plants.

They consist of 1,518 operational personnel, 675 maintenance personnel, and 2,584 security personnel.

Thousands of personnel on standby at the 76 locations are tasked with avoiding operational disruptions to the generators.

If there is a disturbance, it will be resolved quickly, so as not to interfere with community activities during this moment.

"PLN Indonesia Power has also alerted 33 units of fire engines, 25 units of ambulances and other supporting equipment as well as sufficient equipment for disturbances," he explained.

Edwin added that during the standby period, PLN Indonesia Power did not carry out plant maintenance which could potentially turn off electricity.

"We have carried out early maintenance of the plant, so that power supply disruptions caused by plant maintenance can be minimized," he said.

He also emphasized that all PLN Indonesia Power personnel always adhere to the principles of professionalism, integrity, and excellent service to ensure reliable and sustainable electricity supply for people throughout Indonesia.

"All officers are ready to make extraordinary achievements in 2024. We always have to ensure that electricity supplies are always available, safe, and become a force that is able to move Indonesia in a more advanced direction," said Edwin.
