KKP Makes The Economy Project Starting March 2025, Protects Coastal Economy
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) plans to launch a Marine for Welfare (Lautra) project in March 2025. This project is part of Indonesia's efforts to strengthen the sustainable management of marine and coral reef conservation areas, as well as support the economy of coastal communities.
Expert Staff for Ecology and Marine Resources of the KKP Hendra Yusran Siry said that the funding for this project had been agreed through the Law Agreement between the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) and the World Bank.
"The Lautra project is currently in the law agreement, it has signed between the Ministry of Finance and the World Bank. This is one form of our seeking marine and fishery financing. Our budget (KKP in 2025) is still at IDR 6.2 trillion, while the need for marine and fisheries is also very large," said Hendra at a press conference on the 2024 KKP Year-End Achievement Edition II in Jakarta, Tuesday, December 17.
Hendra revealed that the Lautra project is a form of funding innovation for the marine and fisheries sector which is supported by grant funding through the World Bank without any risk to Indonesia.
"This form (defense) is a kind of bond issued by the World Bank, but we don't have any risks," he said.
He added that the Lautra project includes various strategic activities, one of which is the Indonesia Coral Bone, which will be an important part in strengthening the management of coral reef areas.
With this funding, KKP seeks to build supporting infrastructure, expand conservation areas and strengthen marine and fisheries databases.

"As expected by the Minister (Sakti Wahyu Trenggono) we want to strengthen the fisheries marine database, which we hope will be carried out digitally and continuously updated, as well as valid the data," he said.
He said, the KKP is currently preparing a master plan as the main basis for the implementation of this project.
The Lautra project is expected not only to strengthen marine conservation areas and coral reef ecosystems, but also to have a significant economic impact on local communities.
With the support of technology and a sustainable approach, Lautra is expected to be a model for managing effective marine resources for Indonesia's future.
