Residents Of Jerusalem Iranian Intelligence Service Arrested, Involved In Planned Attack On Israel

JAKARTA - An Israeli resident in Jerusalem was arrested on suspicion of in contact with Iranian intelligence agents as part of a plan to carry out an attack on Israel in exchange for payment.

A 23-year-old man known as "John" was arrested in November on suspicion of a security breach, a joint statement said spokesman for the security services of the Shin Bet and Israeli police.

As reported by Reuters on Tuesday, December 17, the investigation shows the perpetrators proposing to cut off the electricity to Jerusalem's rail system.

Perpetrators searched on social networks to buy weapons, sound absorbers, and materials to produce explosives for the purpose of carrying out attacks in Israel.

The suspect is detained and the indictment is expected to be issued in the coming days.

Last week, Reuters reported the arrests of nearly 30 Jews suspected of spying on Iran in nine secret cells, which four Israeli security sources said were Tehran's biggest attempt in decades to infiltrate its arch-foe.

The arrests follow repeated attempts by Iranian intelligence over the past two years to recruit ordinary Israelis to gather intelligence and carry out attacks in exchange for money.
