Rob Floods Submerge 9 RTs In North Jakarta And The Thousand Islands

JAKARTA The DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported that the tidal flood submerged nine RTs in Marunda Village, North Jakarta, and Panggang Island, Thousand Islands, on Monday morning, December 16.

"The latest information on inundation until 10:00 WIB occurred in several areas of North Jakarta and the Thousand Islands," said Head of DKI Jakarta BPBD, Isnawa Adji.

In North Jakarta, three RTs in Marunda Village, Cilincing District, were flooded with tidal waves with water levels reaching 15 25 cm. Meanwhile, in the Thousand Islands, six RTs in Panggang Island Village experienced a puddle of water as high as 40 cm.

The tidal flood also caused the RE Martadinata Road section, precisely in front of the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), Tanjung Priok District, to be flooded with high tide.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has previously issued an early warning of tidal flooding for the period 11'20 December 2024. This phenomenon is caused by the maximum tide of sea water which coincides with the new moon phase, which increases the risk of coastal flooding in the northern region of Jakarta.

This tidal condition makes the Fish Market Water Gate a Danger/Siaga 1 status at 08.00 WIB, Monday morning. As a result, inundation occurred at several points in DKI Jakarta.

BPBD DKI Jakarta has deployed personnel to monitor and deal with puddles. A team from the Water Resources Service (SDA), the Highways Office, and the Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) were involved to extract water and ensure the function of water lines.

"This puddle is targeted to subside in a short time," added Isnawa.

BPBD also coordinates with the local village head and sub-district head to ensure that handling steps run optimally in order to minimize the impact of flooding on residents' activities.
