East Sumbawa Mining Wins Two Indonesian IABC Communication Awards

JAKARTA - PT Sumbawa Timur Mining (STM) won two categories of communication awards at the International Association of Business Communications (IABC) Indonesia Awards 2024.

The two awards consist of the Top 10 and Awards of Excellence category for the Impactful Communications Awards (ICOMMA) subcategories for the Best Diversion, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), as well as Awards of Merit categories for the Impactful Public Relations Awards (IMPRA) subcategories for Best Digital Public Relations.

The IABC has been present for more than 50 years and has representatives in more than 80 countries with about 5,000 members professional in business communications, community relations, and cross-sectoral corporate communications.

The IABC Award strengthens the credibility of organizations and practitioners in these sectors and reinforces global recognition.

The DEI subcategory ICOMMA category award assesses communication activities highlighting messages of diversity, equality, and inclusion. STM won this award thanks to a communication campaign entitled STM Inclusive Women Program: Fostering Gender Diversity and Equality in Copper Gold Exploration Project.

STM Principal Communications, Cindy Elza, explained that the campaign was based on the aspirations of STM to create a work environment that provides equal opportunities without gender discrimination.

"The message of STM equality is conveyed through digital communication channels, print, as well as direct activities involving employees," said Cindy, Sunday in her statement, Sunday, December 15.

For this series of communication strategies, STM has won 90 percent of positive responses to its social media channels. This communication strategy also contributes to the absorption of female workers in STM, which currently reaches 25 percent greater than the average number of female workers in the global mining industry of 8-17 percent (McKinsey, 2021).

Meanwhile, the IMPRA category award for the Best Digital Public Relations subcategory focuses on communication activities involving digital channels. STM communication activities entitled Digital PR: Copper and Gold Exploration Project were successfully selected as winners of this category thanks to the effectiveness of the resulting message.

STM is considered successful in utilizing digital communication channels to convey relevant, humanist, fun, and open messages for its exploration activities.

Cindy Elza explained that the two awards reinforce STM's commitment as a company that upholds inclusiveness in its scope of work, as well as as a company that adapts to technological developments in information management. This appreciation also spurs STM to continue to work better sustainably.

Diversity, equality, and inclusion are integral elements in STM activity. We seek to increase the awareness of our internal and external audiences towards such commitments, while continuing to strengthen its implementation. We also view the development of digital technology as an opportunity to convey our messages on target and have a positive impact," concluded Cindy.
