Bank Indonesia Opens Money Exchange Service In Jakarta Cathedral Area Ahead Of Christmas 2024
JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia opens cash exchange services through mobile cash available in the Cathedral area, Jakarta, Central, to meet the community's needs for rupiah currency ahead of the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year celebrations.
Director of the Bank Indonesia (BI) Money Management Department, Faris Budiawan said that BI's money exchange service through mobile cash cars was simultaneously held throughout Indonesia on December 15, 2024 with the title "The Semarak Rupiah on Peaceful Christmas Day (Serunai) 2024".
"We carry out this activity simultaneously starting today throughout Indonesia, because we understand that the need for money ahead of Christmas and New Year is usually increasing," Faris said at the Cathedral, Central Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Sunday, December 15.
Faris said that the need for rupiah ahead of Christmas and New Year's is estimated to reach Rp133.7 trillion, an increase of 2.5 percent compared to last year's realization of Rp130.4 trillion. "This year, according to our data, there are approximately Rp133.7 trillion," he said.
According to Faris, this increase in the need for money indicates that people's economic activities and mobility this year are increasing.
Meanwhile, the head of the Jakarta Cathedral Church, Father Hani Rudi Hartoko, said that this money exchange service was the first time it was carried out at the Cathedral so that the congregation was enthusiastic about queuing for the service.
"Sometimes people on Christmas Day give signs of sharing love with many people. And if they can give with new money, people also receive it happily," he said.
Moreover, he said, there may also be people who are ready to exchange money for Chinese New Year later.
The exchange of money at the Cathedral was only carried out today with a quota of 250 exchanges and a maximum of IDR 4 million per person.
The public, especially Christians who want to exchange money at the Cathedral, only need to come, as long as the money supply is still there, namely from the denominations of Rp. 5,000, Rp. 10,000, Rp. 20,000, Rp. 50,000 and Rp. 100,000.
In addition to the Cathedral, BI also opened a cash exchange service through mobile cash at Bukit Moria GPIB, Tebet, South Jakarta, only today.
