Syrian Leaders Of Dispute Call To Take To Roads To Celebrate Revolutionary Victory

JAKARTA - The leader of the rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham or HTS, Abu Mohammed al-Golani, called on the people to take to the streets today to celebrate the "victory of revolution".

The call was conveyed by Golani in a video shared on Telegram ahead of the first Friday prayers since the new leadership in Syria.

In the video, Golani wears a dark vest, a white shirt, with a circular watch on her hand.

"I would like to congratulate the great Syrian people for the victory of the blessed revolution and I call on them to take to the streets to express their joy," said Golani, who now uses his real name Ahmed Al-Sharaa, quoted by AFP, Friday, December 13.

Today, Golani is scheduled to perform Friday prayers at the Umayyah mosque which is the landmark in Damascus.

HTS-led militant forces launched a flash attack last month, eventually taking control of Damascus and overthrowing president Bashar Assad in less than two weeks.

On Tuesday this week, they appointed the interim prime minister to lead Syria until March.
