Indonesian Embassy In Damascus Evacuated 37 Indonesian Citizens From Syria
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Embassy in Damascus, Syria, said it evacuated 37 Indonesian citizens (WNI) from Syria following a change of power in the country.
"The Indonesian Embassy in Damascus evacuated 37 Indonesian citizens from Syria," according to a statement on the official social media account of the Indonesian Embassy in Damascus on Instagram, @indonesiaindamascus reported by ANTARA, Rab, December 11.
The Indonesian Embassy in Damascus carried out the evacuation of the first wave of Syria as part of an effort to protect Indonesian citizens in the current situation in Syria.
The evacuation of Indonesian citizens was carried out on December 10 at 14.00 p.m. Syrian time. The group will stop in Beirut before continuing flights to Indonesia on Wednesday 11 December 2024, according to the statement.
The group is scheduled to arrive in Jakarta on December 12, 2024, according to further information.
When releasing the group, the Indonesian Ambassador to Syria Wajid Fauzi prayed for the group's journey to run smoothly and arrive in the country safely.
Earlier on Sunday (8/12) local time, the Indonesian Embassy in Damascus confirmed that all Indonesian citizens in Syria, a total of 1,162 people, were in a safe condition amid the escalation of civil war that reached the Syrian capital.
"It is reported that all Indonesian citizens in Syria are safe," said a statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Damascus which was broadcast via social media Instagram as monitored in Jakarta, Sunday (8/12).

Meanwhile, in an online discussion event today, Wednesday (11/12), the Indonesian Ambassador to Syria Wajid Fauzi also said the situation in Syria was currently running normally.
"I toured the city, saw the streets in the city of Damascus. I can say that 98 percent of people's lives are normal. Shops are open, public transportation is starting to run and people are out free, there are no obstacles," said the Indonesian Ambassador to Syria.
He also ensured that until now Indonesian citizens in Syria were safe without any reports of any impact from events in Syria at this time.
