Deputy Governor Riza Calls One of the Causes of Market Fires Due to Smoking

JAKARTA - Two fires occurred in the Jakarta market ahead of Ramadan. The fire occurred at Tanah Abang Goat Market on April 8 and Inpres Market in Pasar Minggu on April 12.

Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria considers the market is indeed a location that is prone to fire. One of the factors burning the market due to people who smoke.

"The market is generally, people who come there from everywhere. There is no rule to go to the market not to smoke. When you go to the market, it means that there is a potential for fire due to cigarettes. Many traders smoke", Riza said at DKI City Hall, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, April 13.

Also, other factors that cause fires in the market due to electrical installation problems, as well as the distance of stalls adjacent to each other. So, when one stall catches fire, then the fire easily ignites the other stall.

"Indeed in this market is one area, one property that is indeed vulnerable. So, many factors that cause the market including property areas that are vulnerable to fire", said Riza.

Riza claimed that the Provincial Government of Dki Jakarta has often conducted socialization on fire prevention efforts in vulnerable locations, such as markets and densely populated settlements. However, he felt it was not enough to avoid potential fires.

"So good is the regulation that we make, the number of apparatuses, and so on, depending on us, the community", Riza said.

"The community includes keeping our environment not only clean and tidy, attractive, beautiful, cool, but also we make sure our property, our environment, is far from potentially burning. It's just as important", he continued.
