UN Envoy Asks Israel To Stop Attacking Syria

JAKARTA - Geir O. Pedersen, UN special envoy to Syria asked Israel to stop attacking the country after Bashar al-Assad's rule collapsed.

rebel forces stormed the capital Damascus on Sunday, overthrowing Assad and taking control of the country.

We continue to see Israeli movements and bombings into Syrian territory. This needs to be stopped. This is very important," Pedersen said speaking at the Geneva United Nations office on Tuesday, November 10, reported by CNN.

On Monday, Israel said it was attacking Syrian chemical weapons. They have also moved its troops to the buffer zone that separates Israel's occupied Golan Heights from other Syrian territories and ordered the formation of a further security zone' within the Syrian territory.

No one, at all, saw the fall of the Assad regime, including the rebel group itself. Even the armed group that now controls Damascus was shocked (about) what happened, "said Pedersen.
