Tom Lembong Sugar Corruption Case, AGO Examines Director Of PT Duta Sugar International

The Attorney General's Office (AGO) is examining one witness regarding the handling of a case of alleged corruption in sugar imports with the suspect Thomas Trikasih Lembong or Tom Lembong. The witness is the Director of PT Duta Sugar International.

"Witnesses examined by Hendogiarto as Director of PT Duta Sugar International in 2016," said Head of the AGO, Harli Siregar in his statement, Tuesday, December 10.

But it was not conveyed in detail what investigators studied at the Henggiarto examination which took place on Tuesday, December 10.

It was only mentioned that Hendogiarto's examination was to strengthen the evidentiary process and complete the suspect's case file.

"Regarding the investigation of the alleged corruption case in sugar importation activities at the Ministry of Trade in 2015-2016 on behalf of the TTL suspect," said Harli.

The examination of PT Duta Sugar Internasional in the alleged corruption case of sugar importation is known not to be the first time.

This is because the AGO had examined the Accounting Manager of PT Duta Sugar Internasional for the 2015-2023 period with the initials A and VI as the Manager of the PT Duta Sugar International Factory.

Meanwhile, in the deepening of cases of suspected corruption in sugar imports, investigators have examined around 30 witnesses and several experts.

Tom Lembong, who served as Minister of Trade in the 2015-2016 period, was named a suspect for granting a sugar import permit of 105 thousand tons to private companies, which violated the Decree of the Minister of Trade Number 527 of 2004. In this regulation, only state-owned companies are allowed to import sugar.

Tom Lembong was charged with Article 2 Paragraph 1 or Article 3 Juncto Article 18 of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 31 of 1999 concerning Corruption Crimes Juncto Article 55 Paragraph 1 1 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
