Reality Club Introduces Not Today, Song That Separates The Drummer's Lowest Point

JAKARTA - The indie-pop group from Jakarta, Reality Club ended in 2024 by launching a new single titled Not Today, written by Era Patigo (drums). This song talks about dark times and hopes, which is based on the drummer's personal experience when facing the lowest point in his life.

"So, I made this song from my own experience, when I was in the same time. At that time I was very confused and depressed. I was in a mental state that made me unable to see the light in front of me," Era said in his statement, Monday, December 9.

That period, said Era, occurred in 2021, in the midst of a pandemic that almost made everyone stop, he also entered into gray age. At first he thought that the experience was just a bad feeling, but from day to day, the thought of ending life got even faster. There are many questions that are related to the head.

Luckily, Era saw a solid support system from his family and colleagues at the Reality Club. He also asked for professional help, and from there he realized that actually the problem of depression and suicidal thoughts had been present since junior high school, and these bad thoughts continued to creep and grow up to college.

This way of thinking continues to be carried away until the era of music with the Reality Club, and fluid thinking always appears in every difficulty or challenge of life.

And in the end, music and hope that saved Era. Medio 2021, in the midst of the production of the third album Reality Club, Era decided to write lyrics and music. Unexpectedly, the process of writing this song went smoothly.

"Because usually I'm quite overthinking when making songs. It's like a melody, it has to be like this, the chord. But in this song, it's like just driving away," he said.

According to Era, the process of writing songs is an important part of the healing process. I feel this song saves me. This is a song that saves the writer himself.

After the music structure was completed, Era listened to this song to his colleagues at the Reality Club, Fathia Izzati (vocals), Faiz Novascotia Saripudin (guitar, vocals), Nugi Wicaksono (drums), and Iqbal Anggakusumah (former guitar).

"And honestly, the first time with the song, Faiz cried," he recalled

Because it was written based on personal experience, Era made this song look like an experience of going up and down the health of his soul. At the beginning, the lyrics tell of despair. From there, turning to the awareness stage, that there are many people who struggle to live, but he even wants to end it. This change of mindset results in awareness that ending life is not the best way, the future and tomorrow may still provide light.

"At the end, I wrote something very personal, namely when I realized that the challenge was the beauty of life. There is beauty in the struggle. From here I can see the light, can see the beauty of life," he said.

From there Era realized that hope, no matter how thin, could be the limit of determining between life and death. For him, that hope is realized in many ways, ranging from playing a band with his best friends, being able to continue playing baseball, to various joys from small but valuable things.

"From there I feel there are more reasons to live life," said Era.

This song once saved me, and I hope to be friends for them out there. One soul at a time, "he concluded.
