Minister of Culture Supports the Film Women From Rote Island to Represent Indonesia at the 97th Oscars

JAKARTA - Minister of Culture (Menbud) Fadli Zon supports the film "Women from Rote Island" to represent Indonesia at the prestigious 97th Academy Awards or Oscars in the category of "Best International Feature Film".

Fadli Zon gave his support when attending the Pre-Screening activity of the film by director Jeremias Nyangoen in Jakarta, Saturday, December 7.

"This is a historic moment for Indonesian cinema. The selection of 'Women from Rote Island' as one of the 85 best films in the early stages of the Oscar nominations is a global recognition of the quality and potential of Indonesian filmmakers' works," he said through a press release, Sunday, December 8, quoted by Antara.

The Minister of Culture also emphasized that this achievement is not only a source of pride for the film team but also a symbol of the collective success of national cinema.

"This film reflects the spirit, innovation, and dedication of Indonesian filmmakers who have succeeded in presenting a story that not only depicts Indonesian culture but also voices universal values ​​as shown in the film, namely about the struggle of strong women from Rote Island, East Nusa Tenggara, in maintaining their traditions, identity, and local wisdom amidst the challenges of modernity," said Fadli Zon.

He said that the Indonesian Government under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto is committed to continuing to provide support for the best works of the nation's children to be able to make Indonesia proud and introduce the richness of the archipelago's culture on the world stage.

Fadli Zon emphasized the commitment of the Ministry of Culture in advancing Indonesian culture, one of which is through support for films by Indonesian filmmakers to be able to make the nation proud through the best works they have created.

In addition, Fadli Zon also expressed his highest appreciation for all parties involved in making this film.

"The beauty of Rote Island's traditions, such as ikat weaving and sasando music, wrapped in values ​​that reflect the nation's identity such as solidarity, diversity, and deliberation make this film very deserving of the 97th Academy Awards," he added.
