Hardjuno Wiwoho: Transparency And Accountability Key To The Settlement Of Harun Masiku's Case

JAKARTA - The fugitive Harun Masiku case has returned to public attention after Maruarar Sirait announced a competition worth IDR 8 billion to find his whereabouts.

Law observer and anti-corruption activist, Hardjuno Wiwoho, sees this move as reflecting a deadlock in handling protracted cases since 2020.

"The Harun Masiku case is not only about an individual, but has become a symbol of fundamental problems in our legal system," Hardjuno told the media in Jakarta, Friday, December 6.

Hardjuno admitted that he was concerned about the weak coordination between law enforcement agencies. This condition causes the inability to arrest Harun Masiku even though there is information regarding his whereabouts.

Hardjuno Wiwoho, who is also a Doctorate for Law and Development at Airlangga University (Unair), emphasized that transparency and accountability are the keys to restoring public trust.

"Sayembara shows the public's concern. However, justice should not only depend on individual initiatives. Law enforcement officials must accelerate investigations and evaluate existing obstacles," he stressed.

Therefore, Hardjuno emphasized that this momentum must be utilized by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and related institutions to increase law enforcement efforts. In addition, Hardjuno also called for the government to show a strong commitment in eradicating corruption.

"This case is a reflection of how we fight corruption, which is a systemic disease that undermines the nation's morality and national development," he continued.

Furthermore, Hardjuno emphasized that the law must be enforced indiscriminately. Therefore, every individual involved in violating the law must be held accountable before justice.

"Transparency and accountability must be a top priority in resolving the Harun Masiku case and other fugitives. This is not only about justice in one case, but about strengthening the country's legal system," he concluded.

Harun Masiku is a former legislative candidate from the PDI-P. He is now a fugitive in a bribery case related to the interim replacement (PAW) of members of the DPR for the 2019-2024 period.

Harun Masiku fled in January 2020 and has yet to be found.
