61 Prisoners Sentenced To Death And Life Transferred From Cipinang Prison To Nusakambangan

JAKARTA - A total of 61 heavyweight prisoners were transferred from the East Jakarta Cipinang Prison to the Nusakambangan Prison in Cilacap, Central Java on Thursday, December 5, early in the morning.

Those who were transferred were heavyweight inmates with life sentences to the death penalty.

In addition to suppressing the excess capacity of prisoners in Cipinang Prison, East Jakarta, the transfer of heavyweight prisoners is also to prevent narcotics trafficking.

Of the 61 inmates, they are convicts with narcotics and criminal cases.

"We are moving 61 correctional inmates in the DKI Jakarta area to Nusakambangan," said Head of the Correctional Division of the DKI Jakarta Regional Office, Tony Nainggolan, to reporters, Thursday, December 5, early in the morning.

Tony added that the transfer of 61 prisoners was also carried out to stop drug trafficking and fraud through electronic devices in prisons.

"In order to eradicate drug trafficking and drug users, including fraud using electronic devices. Then to handle overcapacity," he said.

Of the total 61 inmates who were transferred to the Nusakambangan Prison, one of them consisted of 38 drug convicts.

"The rest are cases of murder, cases of embezzlement and cases of child protection. For the punishment, the majority of the penalties are the death penalty and the life sentence," he said.

From observations at the location, one by one the inmates were taken by joint officers with a super tight escort from inside the Cipinang Prison to the detention car. All inmates were taken in a closed-eye position. They were taken using four buses belonging to the correctional institution.
