Ternate District Court Sentenced To 2.5 Years In Prison For Inactive North Maluku Kadikbud Bribery Rp1,145 M Former AGK Governor
The Ternate District Court (PN) sentenced the inactive North Maluku Province (Malut) to two years and six months in prison and a fine of Rp. 100 million to the Head of the Education and Culture Office (Kadikbud), Imran Yakub, regarding the bribery case.
"The defendant was found guilty of continuing the criminal act of corruption as in the first alternative indictment," said Chief Justice Rudy Wibowo at the Ternate District Court, Wednesday, December 4, confiscated by Antara.
He stated that Imran was legally and convincingly proven guilty of violating Article 5 paragraph (1) letter a of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption which was amended by Law Number 20 of 2001, junto Article 64 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code.
Thus, the judge sentenced him to an additional 2 months imprisonment if the defendant did not pay the fine.
On that occasion, the Panel of Judges said, Imran Yakub was proven to have given money in stages worth a total of Rp1,145 billion to former North Maluku Governor Abdul Gani Kasuba (AGK), through his closest people.
The money was given to ensure that he was appointed Kadikbud without going through an open selection or competency test.

Previously, the KPK Public Prosecutor (JPU), Andry Lesmana, charged the defendant with 3 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 100 million, subsidiary to 3 months in prison. However, the judge decided a lighter sentence.
After reading the verdict, both the defendant and the prosecutor accepted the verdict.
"I accept the verdict of the panel of judges," said Imran Yakub in court.
Therefore, with the acceptance of the decision by the parties, this case has permanent legal force.
This case adds to the long list of corruption in the government sector in Indonesia, especially those involving high-ranking regional officials.
