Maudy Ayunda Working On Album One Day With A Minim Reference
JAKARTA - Taking references or inspiration from other musicians when working on songs or music albums is very natural, but Maudy Ayunda admits that her latest studio album entitled One Day is worked on with minimal references.
During a hearing session on a new album with the media crew in Thamrin, Central Jakarta on Tuesday, December 3, Maudy was asked about the works of other musicians who were used as references when working on songs for her album. The 29-year-old singer also said that her album this time was different from the previous albums because there were no specific references that she used.
"In the past, maybe we had aspirations like who the references were, or who we wanted to make songs that felt like. You could say for these songs we applied the song first, or like the story first. So it's really basic, raw, use the guitar first, always the beginning," said Maudy.
"Then the melody, we don't start out like who we want to make songs like, but always from what we want to talk about, what is the taste we want to convey from this song," he continued.
Maudy even bravely stated that One Day is the only album with minimal reference from her.
"So if it's a reference link, this might actually be the only album that we didn't have much initial reference to, so we're trying to get back to the song, back to the song again," he said.
The method, said Maudy, makes a new album so diverse, the ten songs presented have their respective styles in storytelling.
Through his fourth studio album, Maudy also wants to mark a new chapter in her musical journey, featuring herself as a figure who tells stories through music.
Maudy said the album this time was different from the one previously known. He wrote nine out of ten songs presented. While the rest was written by Dee Lestari.
"The most important thing on this album is my own role in writing songs," Maudy said.

"In the previous album, there were more collaborators. If this could be said I was very involved, there were even some songs that I wrote alone," he continued.
Meanwhile, one song was specifically handed over to Dee Lestari. This is Maudy's way of paying tribute to the songwriter who has been nominated for the AMI Awards five times.
Maudy also involved two other names who played a big role as songwriters and producers, namely Lafa Pratomo and Mikha Angelo.
