Global Economy Is Turbulent, Indonesia Will Take Advantage Of Opportunities To Encourage The Economy

JAKARTA - Expert Staff to the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Raden Pardede revealed that the results of the United States election are considered to create new challenges to the global economy, including developing countries such as Indonesia.

Raden said that with Donald Trump's victory in the US election to accelerate the global rebalancing process, this would be a challenge as well as an opportunity for Indonesia.

"In terms of trade, Indonesia will try to use GSP from the United States to waive incoming rates. With the status of country strategic partners and Indo-Pacific cooperation as well as the OECD membership process, we hope Indonesia's positioning will be better," he said while representing Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto in Sarasehan 100 Economists, Wednesday, December 3.

Amid the uncertainty of global and domestic economic growth, Raden is still optimistic that Indonesia's economic growth will remain stable in the range of 5 percent, controlled inflation, and poverty levels will decrease.

"Indonesia's economy is relatively solid at around 5 percent. The latest OECD projection in November 2024 shows optimism where Indonesia is estimated to grow at 5.1 percent and 5.2 percent in 2025. Inflation remains under control in the range of target targets," he explained.

In addition, in November 2024 BPS reported that inflation was at 1.55 percent year on year or maintained at around 2.5 plus minus 1 percent.

Raden said the government continues to maintain price stability and affordability, especially in the context of facing the Christmas holidays in the near future and social indicators also show improvement.

According to Raden, with various positive achievements, investors are still looking at Indonesia as an attractive country, driven by various rating institutions that maintain Indonesia's rating at BBB+.

In addition, Raden said that Indonesia's increasing competitiveness has increased to its highest position since the last 10 years based on the IMD Global Competitive Index, which is ranked 27th.

Raden said that President Prabowo was committed to continuing and strengthening the foundations that had been built from the previous government through various national priority programs through the Asta Cita program.

"The 8 main pillars launched to answer future challenges include strengthening independence in the food, energy, water, creative economy, green economy, blue economy, and continuing downstreaming and industrialization to increase added value in the country," he said.
