DKI Provincial Government Still Reviewing Emission Tests So STNK Extension Requirements

Deputy Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency, Sarjoko, admitted that his party was still reviewing the emission test mechanism as a condition for the extension of the motor vehicle registration in Jakarta. This discourse was echoed last year, but has not been implemented.

"This is still in the process of being coordinated with the Cross SKPD. We are still continuing to be able to formulate technical policies related to the emission test plan to be part of the extension of the STNK tax," Sarjoko told reporters, Tuesday, December 3.

So far, the DKI Provincial Government has continued to hold discussion forums with the police and relevant stakeholders regarding the effectiveness of emission testing as a condition for the extension of the STNK.

The study in the discussion included identifying emission test weaknesses as a condition for extending the STNK to other opportunities to be united in further technical improvements. One of the concerns if this discourse is implemented is the potential to burden the community.

"This is of course related to consideration factors for the public, the community. Do not let this seem to burden the community with an increase in motor vehicle taxes," said Sarjoko.

Therefore, the DKI Provincial Government will continue to socialize the emission test policy to build public awareness. The goal is to suppress air pollution sourced from motor vehicle smoke.

"So this needs to be gradual on how we socialize. Even if we can implement this later, in quotes. Of course, it will take time for us to provide socialization to the community," he explained.

One of the socialization efforts was carried out by monitoring compliance with emission tests on Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta on Tuesday, December 3 morning.

Sarjoko, explained that this activity included checking vehicles at locations carried out by stopping drivers directly by police officers and the Transportation Service (Dishub).

"Vehicles will be checked through e-uji emission applications to ascertain whether they have fulfilled the emission test obligation or not. If not or the test period has expired, we facilitate the implementation of direct emission tests on the spot," explained Sarjoko.

In addition, Sarjoko also said that the follow-up to the results of the inspection really depends on the condition of the vehicle. If the vehicle has carried out emission tests and passed, the driver can continue the journey. However, for vehicles that do not meet the quality standards, advice will be given to carry out maintenance or repair of vehicles in order to improve their performance.
