Habiburokhman: 7 Factions In Commission III Of The DPR Reject The PDIP Polri's Proposal To Return Under The Ministry Of Home Affairs

JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission III of the DPR Habiburokhman responded to the proposal of a member of the DPR from the PDIP faction, Deddy Yevry Sitorus, that the National Police institution be again under the control of the Indonesian National Army (TNI) or the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri).

Habiburokhman said as many as 7 out of 8 factions in Commission III of the DPR rejected the PDIP's proposal to return the Police to be under the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri).

"It's fixed, yes, the majority of factions in Commission III have said that 7 out of 8 factions said they did not agree with the proposal," said Habiburokhman, Monday, December 2.

Previously, Deddy Yevry Sitorus suggested that the National Police be brought back under the control of the TNI or the Ministry of Home Affairs in response to the results of the 2024 simultaneous regional elections in a number of areas indicated by the deployment of police officers.

"We are investigating the possibility of pushing again so that the National Police returns under the control of the TNI Commander or so that the Police are returned to the Ministry of Home Affairs," said Deddy at the DPPPDIP office, Jakarta, Thursday, November 28.

Deddy explained that the reason his party suggested that the National Police be placed under the Ministry of Home Affairs was because currently there are many problems within the Police. Mainly, the Police are fussy in the political field.

In fact, he said, the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia and PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri separated the TNI and Polri in 2000 so that the Police as a civilian institution armed could independently serve the community.

"But what we have experienced so far is that the National Police institution is not only in the political field, but matters related to its own institutions and protection services for the community are experiencing extraordinary degradation," said Deddy.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Bima Arya, has responded to the Police's proposal under his ministry. Bima assessed that in the rules it was clear that the Police were under the President of the Republic of Indonesia.

"Yes, the law stipulates that the police are directly under the President," said Bima Arya at the Presidential Palace complex on Monday, December 2.

Bima said, if there is a change in the position of the National Police institution, then there needs to be a political process in the DPR as a legislative institution. So, according to him, everything needs to be considered and considered.

"If there is a change, there will definitely be a political process first in the DPR and of course it must go through a study, consider what it looks like," he said.

Bima Arya explained that each change would have an impact on state finances and coordination between institutions or ministries. Thus, he said, it needs to be considered carefully.

"So it must be considered carefully," he said.
