Reaping Controversy, Adidas And Avavav Launch Unique Finger Boots For IDR 4 Million

JAKARTA - The fashion world was again surprised by the unique innovation of the collaboration between well-known sports equipment brand Adidas and AVAVAVAV, a fashion brand founded by two Swedish designers.

Reported by VOI from the New York Post page on Saturday, November 30, 2024, in their debut at Milan Fashion Week 2025, they launched controversial shoes called 'Superfingers' for US$250 or nearly Rp. 4 million.

This shoe was introduced at Milan Fashion Week as part of the AVAVAVAV 2025 collection. The design resembles the barefoot shoes commonly used to run, but with a unique and eccentric design using the 'four-footed' motif.

This additional radius is inspired by the characteristics of AVAVAVAV. It can be seen from the logo, gloves, hats, and boots. This design is reminiscent of Maison Margiela's Tabi shoes which are also famous for being eccentric.

Since his debut, these shoes have sparked debate for netizens. Some consider the design 'cool' and 'unique'. But many also criticized and called the design'strange' to 'like aliens'.

"What's wrong with making shoes with an ordinary design?" wrote a netizen in the comments column of Adidas' Instagram account.

"If you call this fashion, maybe you need therapy," commented another netizen.

"Adidas is really disappointing now," said another netizen.

"In the past, you made cool things," continued another netizen.

Despite many criticisms, the Creative Director of AVAVAVAV, Beate Karlsson, sees this collaboration as a dream come true. He admitted that this design was intended to'making fun of' Adidas.

"Since the beginning of this collaboration, I have been encouraged to'make a joke' from Adidas," he told Hypebae.

"Ironi is from how serious we are with regard to sports and fashion. We explore it, but still serious. It's a very pleasant experience," he continued.

Despite the controversy, these shoes still attract consumer attention. Some sizes have even been sold out online. This shows that the market has different views on the uniqueness of this design.
