Artists With Special Needs Diego Berel Will Show 13 Beautiful Paintings In Bali
JAKARTA - Diego Berel, a young artist with special needs who suffers from Down Syndrome, will hold an art exhibition that highlights the beauty and depth of expression in every work of his painting.
In his work, Diego collaborated with The Apurva Kempinski Bali by holding an art exhibition entitled "Gallery of Art: Arts Beyond Boundaries".
The exhibition features 13 paintings by Diego Berel, a child with special needs, to convey the message that art is the right of each individual, regardless of background or ability.
Diego's mother, Sandra, tells of Diego's ability to be talented in painting. He saw that ability existed since Diego went to school with special needs. Diego continues to explore his talent and he likes to paint.
"We get a report that Diego likes to write, if we study painting. Then, we show Diego's first painting. Parents always support even though they are special children," Sandra said at the virtual event The Apurva Kempinski Bali - Gallery of Art: Arts Beyond Boundaries on Friday, November 29, 2024.
"Diego has a talent he likes, this is a prayer answered by the Almighty. We are also collaborating with the school and teachers so that Diego focuses on painting," he continued.
Sarah feels that Diego not only gives off his imagination when painting, but rather integrity. He and the school always pay attention and train Diego to focus on his motor skills.

At this exhibition, Sandra said Diego had been painting since 2022. Diego made a painting of what he had seen and felt so far.
" Diego's aspirations are seen, felt and poured in his lumisan. His paintings vary, maybe his reference is to look at the iPad or the surrounding environment. For example, seeing flowers but different from the method," said Sarah.
One of the paintings to be displayed in this exhibition is Balinese Penjor. This painting was previously exhibited at The Holy Art Gallery London in 2022. This work was created from Diego's desire to visit Bali, even though its plan was hindered by the pandemic.
The soft colorful game and the expression of the 22-year-old man's art are the pluses of the curators to raise his name as the winner and have the right to hold a single cast there both offline and virtually. The curation process of all the paintings in the exhibition is fully entrusted to Sandra.
" Diego's painting is crossed the mind, including Balinese oranges. He said he was happy and poured into the painting. This collaboration is intended so that Diego can inspire many people," he said.
"Especially for parents, they have special children with various responses. Some are embarrassed, but some are confused about where the child is going. Even though the parents support the child's system." he continued.
