Forced To Reshuffle Play Store, Google Asks US Court To Cancel Decision

JAKARTA Google is still trying to cancel the court's decision which forced it to overhaul the Google Play Store. The jury's decision and the judge's order were made after Google lost to Epic Games.

On Wednesday, November 27, Google again asked the court to overturn the ruling. This statement was conveyed through detailed arguments submitted to the ninth US Circuit Court of Appeal in San Francisco.

In its lawsuit file, Google says that the court judge has made a legal mistake for giving an unfair verdict. According to the tech giant, the punishment for overhauling the Play Store actually benefits Epic Games.

Google even emphasizes that this decision will harm many parties, including app developers on the Play Store. The reason is, the reshuffle of the Play Store system will require a 'Dramatic redesign' that will harm developers and consumers.

The company added that the jury shouldn't have listened to Epic's lawsuit because the gaming company was trying to ban Google's actions, not asking for compensation. Google also seems to strongly condemn the judge's actions.

US District Judge James Donato is considered to have taken unfair action by allowing Epic to notify judges that Google and Apple are not competitors to the distribution of apps and in-app payments. For Google, this submission is very wrong.

However, Epic still sticks to his argument and blames Google instead. The Fortnite game developer said that Google relies on flawed arguments. The reason is, this argument has been rejected by the jury.

"This unfounded appeal is Google's desperate attempt to circumvent compliance with the jury's unanimous decision," Epic said on the same day as Google submitted an appeal argument file.
