WBC Invites Fury Vs Usyk Winners To Fight Dubois
JAKARTA The winner of the rematch of Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk is welcome to inaugurate his title against IBF champion belt holder Daniel Dubois.
Fury and Usyk are scheduled to enter the ring on December 21, 2024, in Saudi Arabia. The two will fight for only three titles, namely WBC, WBO, and WBA.
WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman also supported the winner of this duel to reunify four heavyweight belts against British boxer Dubois.
"We strongly support the unification and undisputed champion fight. I want to see Dubois fight the winner of the duel and without a doubt the fight is sensational," Sulaiman said as reported by Sky Sport.
Usyk previously held the title as the undisputed heavyweight world champion and controlled all four belts after defeating Fury in a duel that took place on May 18, 2024 at the Kingdom Arena, Saudi Arabia.
The status lasted until September 2024 when he removed the IBF belt for Dubois, who then made sure he became the real champion by defeating Anthony Joshua.
Usyk committed to playing again with Fury and refusing to defend the IBF belt. Therefore, this Ukrainian champion could try to get the belt again if he returned to bend Fury.
"We all have to try to make it happen (Usyk vs Fury winner against Dubois). The reason this organization exists is to give the best fight for the boxing world," said Sulaiman.
Usyk previously requested that the IBF version of the heavyweight world boxing title not be taken from him so that he would remain a true world champion when he returned to face Fury.
However, IBF refused because based on the title rules it had to be taken from Usyk as long as he did not appear in his mandatory fight against Dubois.
Lenox Lewis was the true heavyweight boxing champion before Usyk in 1999. However, at that time the boxing title was still three versions before WBO was officially recognized in 2007.
