Momentum Bagus Jonathan Christie

JAKARTA Jonathan Christie has a good momentum to come out as champions at the 2024 BWF World Tour Finals which will take place next month in China.

The season closing tournament will be held on 11-15 December 2024 at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center. Jonathan is one of six Indonesian representatives who will appear there.

Head of the Development and Achievement Division (Head of Binpres) of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), Ricky Subagja, refused to mention Indonesia's specific target, but he hoped Jonathan could maintain his performance.

"I feel that Jonatan Christie's graph (from the tournaments) yesterday, (so) this moment must be maintained to be able to enter the title," said Ricky.

Jonathan, the 2018 Asian Games gold medalist, closed the BWF World Tour series this year with two good performances, each at the 2024 Japanese Kumamoto Masters and China Masters.

In both events, he became a semifinalist and runner-up. In total, from the six events he has participated in since the 2024 Paris Olympics, he has been a semifinalist three times, runner-up twice, and has returned home in the quarter-finals once.

In addition to full hopes for Jonathan, Ricky also wants all Indonesian representatives who qualify there to be able to give their best performances.

"The best target is from all sectors. We wish you the best at the end of the year. What is the series (of tournaments) from January 2024 and this is the final," he said.

The other five Indonesian representatives who also received tickets to China were Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Mohammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani, Febriana Dwi Puji Kusuma/Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi, and Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja.

So far, Indonesia has not been able to speak much at the BWF World Tour Finals. Since it started in 2018, only one title has been successfully brought home.

This achievement was made by the pair Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan in the second edition of 2019. At that time The Daddies stopped the Japanese representative, Hiroyuki Endo/Yuta Watanabe, in the final match.
