Former England Manager Gareth Southgate Considers Career Outside Football

JAKARTA - Five months after leaving his job as England's national team manager Gareth Southgate said his next career move could be outside the football industry.

In a long upload on social media platform LinkedIn, Southgate said he was looking for his next "purpose" in his life after becoming coach of the England national team from 2016 to 2024.

"This higher goal keeps me on track, gives me structure, makes my life more satisfying, and it will be very difficult to emulate," Southgate wrote on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.

"That's why I don't limit my future choice to remain a football coach."

Southgate, who left his job as coach of the England national team after losing in the Euro 2024 final last July, was linked to Manchester United.

However, the Red Devils chose to recruit Ruben Amorim after sacking Erik ten Hag in October 2024.

Southgate has disappeared from the limelight after leaving the England national team.

Three Lions then stepped forward by appointing interim coach Lee Carsley and starting January 1, 2025, Thomas Tuchel officially becomes permanent manager to replace Southgate.

Southgate says most of its focus is on charity options.

"After eight years on duty in one of the most famous roles in the world of football, I consciously took the time to reflect on what I experienced and think deeply about what would happen next," he wrote.

"I feel comfortable with this 'exploration' period and don't have all the answers."

"I follow the advice I will give to every young person. Keep learning, wake up or explore your network."

"Look for a different life experience. When you decide what will happen next, nothing will be right or wrong, just one way or another," wrote Southgate again.
