Komnas HAM: Law If There Is A Violation Of The Shooting Police Case Of SMKN 4 Semarang Students

SEMARANG - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) has asked for legal action to be enforced if there is a violation of the law in the case of SMKN 4 Semarang student, GRO, who died allegedly as a result of being shot by the police.

"If there is a violation of the law, then there must be legal action," said Komnas HAM Commissioner Saurlin Siagian as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, November 26.

According to him, Komnas HAM has not received an official complaint about the incident that killed the class XI SMKN 4 Semarang student.

He ensured that Komnas HAM would process the case if there were reports submitted.

In addition to receiving official reports, he continued, Komnas HAM could proactively handle the case later.

Meanwhile, the Semarang Legal Aid Institute (LBH) in its press release also asked Komnas HAM to intervene in the case.

Director of LBH Semarang Syamsudin Arif asked Komnas HAM together with LPSK and Kompolnas to be directly involved and provide protection for families, friends, schools, and other witnesses in the case.

"Demanding to investigate cases in a transparent and fair manner by punishing the perpetrators severely," he said.

LBH also urged reform within the police to protect the rights of the community.

Previously, a class XI student at SMKN 4 Semarang City, with the initials GRO, was reported to have died allegedly from gunshot wounds to his body.

The resident of Kembangarum, Semarang City, was buried by his family in Sragen on Sunday afternoon.

The police suspect that the victim was the perpetrator of a brawl between gangsters that occurred around the Simongan area, West Semarang on Sunday (24/11) in the early hours of the morning.

The police, who tried to break up the brawl between gangsters, were forced to defend themselves by firing firearms.
