Floods In 8 Districts, Bandung BPBD Sets Emergency Response Status For 2 Weeks

BANDUNG - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Bandung Regency has established a flood emergency response status from November 22 to December 6, 2024, following floods that hit eight sub-districts in the area, due to extreme weather and high rainfall.

Head of BPBD Bandung Regency, Uka Suska, said that the determination of this status was to accelerate the handling and recovery of the impact of disasters in the affected areas.

"We have set an emergency response status for faster recovery, including evacuation, cleaning up mud, garbage, and repairing damaged infrastructure," Uka said in Bandung, West Java, Monday.

According to him, the emergency response status allows the government to use Unexpected Funds (BTT) to help recover more quickly.

Uka said that so far there are eight sub-districts that are still flooded, including Bojongsoang, Dayeuhkolot, Pameungpeuk, Baleendah, Katapang, Ciparay, Pacet, and Majalaya sub-districts.

He revealed that his party had established an emergency response post for the provision of logistics in an effort to help the affected communities. "We set up tents in the Bojongsoang Water Park area for residents affected by the Dayeuhkolot flood and its surroundings," he said.

Until now, he said, the Bandung Regency BPBD recorded 2,014 houses submerged with 12,250 families (KK) affected by the disaster.

"We are still deploying personnel to the field to conduct an assessment to ensure the number of houses submerged and data on victims is valid," said Uka.

In addition to setting up refugee tents, he continued, BPBD also provided assistance in the form of basic necessities, rice, tarpaulins, and cleaning equipment for the refugees.

He hopes that there will be solidarity from various parties, such as food assistance and refugee tents, so that they can ease the burden on refugees following the limited logistics from BPBD.

"Logistics from BPBD are running low, so we continue to seek additional assistance from other parties to meet the needs of the refugees," said Uka.

The flood in the Bandung Regency area was triggered by the high intensity of rain in the last few days, causing the overflow of the Citarum River to inundate four sub-districts.
