Ledug River Embankment Breaks, Tangerang Garden City Housing Submerged Up to 110 Cm

TANGERANG - Heavy rain that poured down on Tangerang City on Saturday, November 23 caused flooding in several areas. One of the areas that was severely affected was the Garden City Housing Complex, Periuk, with water levels reaching 70 centimeters, after previously reaching 110 centimeters.

A resident, Wahyu, said that hundreds of houses in the housing complex were submerged in floodwater due to the collapse of the Ledug River embankment.

"The embankment collapsed due to heavy rain yesterday, so it flooded. Hundreds of houses were submerged, the water level is now around 70 cm," said Wahyu at the location, Sunday, November 24.

Tangerang City BPBD officers immediately went to the location to handle the situation. Together with related agencies, they installed emergency embankments using sacks filled with sand and wood to hold back the overflowing water.

"Last night, a temporary embankment was installed using sandbags and wood," said Wahyu.

Meanwhile, the evacuation of affected residents was carried out using boats. The elderly and children were prioritized to be moved to a safer place.

"Many have been evacuated, especially the elderly and children," concluded Wahyu.
