BMKG Forecasts The Peak Of The Rainy Season On The Island Of Java-Sumatra November 2024-February 2025

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that the peak of the rainy season for the period 2024/2025 will occur between November and February 2025.

Head of BMKG Dwikorita Karnawati explained, the peak of this rainy season will vary in several parts of Indonesia.

"In November to December 2024, a number of areas are expected to experience the peak of the rainy season," he said in a statement, Sunday, November 24, which was confiscated by Antara.

The areas in question include parts of Sumatra, the southern coast of Java, and Kalimantan.

Meanwhile, for the period January to February 2025, said Dwikorita, areas that are predicted to experience the peak of the rainy season include Lampung, northern Java, parts of Sulawesi, Bali, NTB, NTT, and most of Papua.

BMKG's Deputy for Climatology Ardhasena added that until mid-November 2024, the El Maritime Affairs-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) index showed a weak La Ni total tendency.

"On the other hand, the Indian Ocean Dipole index shows negative value towards neutral conditions," he said.

"This condition has the potential to affect the weather pattern in Indonesia, where in general Indonesia's sea level temperature is warmer than usual, which has the potential to cause wet climate disruption until early 2025," Ardhasena added.

BMKG Deputy for Meteorology Guswanto also revealed that there are two tropical cyclone seeds that are developing in the Indian Ocean, namely Tropical Cyclone 96S Seeds in the southwest of Bengkulu and Tropical Cyclone 99B Seeds west of Aceh.

"These two cyclone seeds have the potential to have a direct or indirect impact on the weather and waters in the western part of Indonesia," he said.

In addition, said Guswanto, several atmospheric phenomena such as Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO), Rossby Waves, and Kelvin Waves are also active.

He said this phenomenon could increase the potential for extreme weather in the next few weeks, such as heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds.

BMKG urges the public to always be vigilant and anticipate early on potential extreme weather that can occur.
