Ahead Of Christmas And New Year, The Ministry Of Tourism Prepares A Maximum Strategy For Tourist Movement

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Tourism (Kemenpar) has prepared a number of strategies to maximize the movement of domestic tourists (wisnus) and foreign tourists (tourists) ahead of the 2024 Christmas and 2025 new year holidays.

Deputy Minister of Tourism (Wamenpar) Ni Luh Puspa in the 'Rakor Discussion on Preparation for the 2024 Christmas Holidays and 2025 New Year', which took place online, Saturday (23/11/2024) revealed that five strategies will be implemented to strengthen tourist movements during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

The strategy includes the preparation and socialization of the Circular Letter of the Minister of Tourism regarding the implementation of safe, comfortable, and pleasant tourism activities during the 2024 Christmas and 2025 new year celebrations with the collaboration of relevant stakeholders and local governments throughout Indonesia.

"This circular will be distributed to Regional Heads, especially the Tourism Office in 38 provinces, as well as to tourism business associations and tourism managers. And we will hold a coordination meeting in early December 2024 after this circular is distributed to ensure the readiness of all relevant stakeholders," said Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh.

The next step, the Ministry of Tourism will carry out a tourist destination visit ahead of the 2024 Christmas and 2025 new year holidays in several locations that are estimated to have the potential to be crowded with tourists.

"Currently, we are continuing to map out which destinations need attention, such as beach destinations in Banten, if in Jakarta there is Ancol, Safari Park in Puncak, then in Bali we will see how the airport is ready to ensure tourist arrivals can take place safely and comfortably," said the Deputy Minister of Tourism.

Not only that, the Ministry of Tourism is working with partners to design Christmas and New Year's promos and offer tour packages to attract tourists to vacation in Indonesia.

The implementation of the JAJAN #DiIndonesiaAja (Year-End Roads #DiIndonesiaAja) campaign is also carried out. The campaign amplification will be carried out on several digital platforms such as social media and the Ministry of Tourism website which contains information in the form of promos, event inspiration, year-end destination recommendations, as well as up-to-date information.

"And in December 2024 to January 2025 there are still events that we hope can increase the movement of tourists. Where there are 10 regional events, 3 national events, and 4 international events," said Wamenpar.

During the 2024 Christmas holiday and 2025 new year, the economic potential of the Wissue movement is estimated to reach IDR 117.3 trillion. With an estimated number of foreign tourists in December 2024 of 78.2 million trips.

Meanwhile, the economic potential of the foreign tourists movement is projected to reach Rp22.55 billion Rp29.2 billion. With an optimistic estimate of reaching 1.02 million -1.325 million in December 2024.

Based on the results of a survey by the Ministry of Transportation, the potential for national community movement during the Christmas 2024 period and the new year 2025 is still centered on the island of Java with details, namely Central Java 17.1 percent, DI Yogyakarta 15.77 percent, West Java 11.78 percent, Jabodetabek 10.34 percent, and East Java 8.85 percent. Then followed by North Sumatra 5.7 percent, Bali 5.55 percent, West Sumatra 3.26 percent, Lampung 3.08 percent, and South Sulawesi 2.66 percent.

The tourist attractions that are most dominant are visited by tourists, namely coastal areas, lakes, seas by 58.6 percent, then culinary centers by 54.8 percent, mountains or hills by 50 percent, zoos and recreational parks 33.9 percent, and tourist villages 28.4 percent.

However, the momentum of the 2024 Christmas and 2025 new year holidays also has challenges such as congestion, weather changes, rising prices of goods and services, cleanliness, extortion, and natural disasters of the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki in NTT, whose condition is still on alert status.

For this reason, Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh invites all parties to strengthen collaboration between the central government, local governments, and the private sector to ensure that the Christmas and New Year holidays can run smoothly.

"And we hope that this moment can be a significant driver in national economic growth as well as strengthen the image of Indonesian tourism in realizing a comfortable, safe, and unobstructed experience in traveling in Indonesia," said Ni Luh.
