Komnas Perempuan Regrets Ridwan Kamil's Sectiond Statement
Deputy Chairperson of Komnas Perempuan, Olivia Chadidjah Salampessy, regretted the sexist statement made by the Cagub and Cawagub number 1 DKI Jakarta pair Ridwan Kamil and Suswono in a sexist tone.
According to Olivia, the statements of the two were not sexist but degrading the dignity of women with widow status.
"Their statement is not only sexist but also strengthens negative labeling of women who are widows by degrading their dignity. This is a form of discrimination and violence against women in holding elections that are contrary to international norms and the Indonesian Constitution," Olivia said.
He explained that what the Jakarta cagub-cawagub pair did was violence against women in the electoral contestation as defined by Komnas Perempuan.
On the other hand, Olivia assessed that the statements of RK and Suswono had violated the provisions regarding campaign material as stated in Article 17 of the General Election Commission Regulation (PKPU) No. 13 of 2024.
"We ask Bawaslu to carry out intensive supervision of various forms of violence against women in the implementation of the 2024 Pilkada and on the implementation of PKPU No. 13 of 2024 concerning the Election Campaign for Governors and Deputy Governors, Regents and Deputy Regents as well as Mayors and Deputy Mayors," he said.
