Celebrate Teacher's Day, TikTok Supports Teacher Creators To Smart Young Users

JAKARTA As a video distribution platform, the function of TikTok is not only limited to the distribution of entertainment videos. This platform can also be used as a learning room, both by students and teaching parties.

This year, TikTok will again celebrate National Teacher's Day with the title Guru Great, Indonesia Strong. TikTok also introduced two popular teachers on its platform, namely Retired Math Teacher Melan Achmad and Communication Lecturer Ira Mirawati.

These two teachers proved that TikTok is more than just a vertical video platform. The reason is, they can take advantage of the various features on TikTok to share knowledge with millions of young people who still have a learning spirit.

Like Melan, or who is familiarly called Mbah Melan, for example. This former math teacher likes to share tips and tricks in answering mathematical exams in the form of videos since the end of last year. Many students feel helped by the video.

So that the learning media is not limited, Mbah Melan tries to take advantage of the LIVE feature so that she can teach TikTok users directly. In almost a year, Mbah Melan managed to attract more than 800 thousand users.

"If LIVE via TikTok, its students, spectators, or audiences are from Sabang to Merauke. There are so many thousands," said Mbah Melan. "From the results (LIVE), comments came in. After watching Mbah's video, many commented on the rising value."

Meanwhile, Ira is a lecturer and Head of the Communication Management Study Program at Padjadjaran University. During teaching, Ira always cares about students who face academic difficulties.

To help students, Ira made counseling services and actively promoted the service. However, when the pandemic hit, Ira had to look for other alternatives so that the lecturer began creating content on TikTok.

Ira always creates content related to student academic needs, especially regarding thesis. During several years of pursuing her account, Ira was able to collect 4.9 million views on TikTok within four years.

The experience of Mbah Melan and Ira shows that knowledge can be shared anywhere, including in video distribution applications. This platform can also be used by creators from various generations, both Gen Z and the boomer generation.

"In my opinion, this is a potential for us to use as a platform that we really plan as part of education to educate children," said Ira. "We color the existing content with education, but how do we keep them entertained, keep them happy."
