Police Reveal 619 Online Gambling Cases And Name 734 People As Suspects

The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police Headquarters, Komjen Polisi Wahyu Widada, revealed that during the November 2024 period, the National Police managed to uncover 619 cases of online gambling. Of these, 734 people were named as suspects.

"From November 5 to 20, we managed to uncover as many as 619 cases with a total of 734 suspects," said Komjen Wahyu Widada during a press conference at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, Central Jakarta, Thursday, November 21.

The suspects arrested consisted of various roles, ranging from operators, admins, collectors, chip sellers, to talent seekers or people who helped make bank accounts for online gambling.

"The amount of money confiscated after the formation of this desk reached Rp 77,653,433,548," Wahyu explained.

In addition to cash, other evidence that was secured included 858 cellphones, 111 laptops, PCs, and tablets, as well as 470 account books, 829 ATM cards, 6 vehicle units, 2 building units, and 27 firearms.

"Of the total 619 cases, there are some involving foreign nationals and some whose servers are overseas," he added.

The National Police plans to continue this effort by tracing the assets of the online gambling proceeds. In addition, they will also carry out a search of the possibility of money laundering (TPPU).
