Online Gambling Is Increasing, Budi Gunawan Says The Government Will Be More Aggressive
JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) Budi Gunawan said that it was quite difficult to eradicate online gambling.
However, the government will be more aggressive in eradicating the rise of online gambling.
According to Budi Gunawan, from a technical point of view, the eradication of online gambling does seem easy to identify and block online gambling sites.
However, in practice many of the operators managing online gambling websites carry out domain switching (breaking domains).
"As a result of our evaluation, many operators are switching domains or changing the name of the domain that has been blocked, so we will then carry out blocking steps more aggressively," he said at a press conference on the achievement of the online gambling eradication desk and data security desk, Thursday, November 21.
According to Budi Gunawan, the current condition of online gambling is very disturbing, worrying and emergency. Where it is like an epidemic, such as an infectious disease that infects various groups, from parents to children.
"That online gambling is currently in trouble, worrying and emergency," he said.
Therefore, Budi Gunawan said that all relevant ministries/agencies will continue to take action and law enforcement efforts.
Budi Gunawan conveyed that one of them was by cutting and blocking online gambling sites, such as tracing and blocking the flow of funds and conducting public campaigns and education to prevent online gambling.
Previously, Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Juda Agung revealed that his party would continue to be consistent in eradicating online gambling (judol) and had a way of preventing it as the payment system authority.
"BI continues to play a role in eradicating online gambling. As the authority of the BI payment system, we want to make sure the payment system is not used or facilitates illegal activities including online gambling," said Juda.
Juda added that his party has prepared two ways as payment authority in preventing the rise of online gambling, including collaborating with the entire financial industry in strengthening the digital fraud detection system or the Fraud Detection System so that it can identify accounts used in transactions.
"We have two lines of defense, namely in terms of payment service providers, both bank and non-bank, as payment service providers (PJP) are required to have a fraud detection system to identify accounts used in online gambling transactions or other frouds," he explained.

Juda added that the list of identified accounts used in online gambling activities or other frouds would be sent to other financial industries so that other parties could immediately anticipate. Where when there is a transaction will be automatically rejected.
"The receipt was also submitted to Bank Indonesia and by Bank Indonesia the account data account was then entered into the BI-Fast system to ensure that once this transaction is used in BI-Fast it will be rejected," he explained.
In addition to collaborating and implementing the Fraud Detection System, Juda added that his party will also provide education to the entire community, especially those using payment systems, including through mass media and social media.
