Hundreds Of Families In Telukjambe Karawang Refuge Due To Floods

Hundreds of families in the West Telukjambe District, Karawang Regency, West Java were displaced due to the flood disaster that hit the area.

"Flooding in Pangasinan Hamlet, Karangligar Village, Telukjambe Barat District has hit flooding since Wednesday," said Karangligar Village Secretary, Yosi Apriani, as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, November 21.

He said the flooding that occurred in the area was the third time this November.

Previously, the first flood in Pangasinan Hamlet occurred on November 4 and the second flood occurred on November 12, 2024.

The third flood that occurred since Wednesday (20/11) resulted in 130 houses being submerged. The number of residents affected by the flood was recorded as many as 570 people, and 185 families.

"Residents affected by the flood fled to safer places," he said.

Meanwhile, Karawang Regent Teppy Wawan Dharmawan said long-term action was needed to deal with flood disasters around Karangligar Village, Telukjambe Barat District.

"Long-term handling is needed, because the area around Karangligar Village is a flood subscription," he said.

He conveyed that the flood disaster that hit Karangligar Village occurred due to the overflow of the Cibeet River.

According to him, long-term action is needed to deal with flooding in Karangligar Village. One of the efforts that have been proposed by the village government is water control measures, and relocation plans.

Both flood management, both relocation and water control measures, require a long process.
