Kemenkomdigi Restructuring Employees Related To Online Gambling Cases

JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Digital Indonesia (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid emphasized that his party will carry out internal restructuring after a number of its employees become suspects in online gambling cases.

"There is a possibility of additional, for example, yes, at least from the SOP, maybe there are people who are placed in the wrong place, we are also doing this (internal restructuring)," said Meutya when met at the Ministry of Communication and Trade office, Central Jakarta, last Wednesday.

In addition, Meutya also said that she would continue to cooperate with various ministries and institutions, such as the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK). "We are active in cooperation. We have also met with the OJK chairman, the head of PPATK, as well as related ministries," he said.

So far, in an effort to eradicate online gambling, the Ministry of Communication and Trade has proven its commitment. Meutya said that she had consolidated, investigated, and dismissed a number of employees who had been named suspects in online gambling cases.

"Maybe the addition of people whose positions are not in accordance with the SOP, then we have to move it from its duties. So it's more of an internal organization that we fix, the person, in their respective places according to the decree," he concluded.

Previously, Polda Metro Jaya revealed that there are now 23 suspects in online gambling cases involving Kemenkomdigi employees, as of Tuesday, November 19.

Meanwhile, as many as 11 Kemenkomdigi employees who were involved in online gambling have been disabled after the police made arrests. The Ministry of Education employees are suspected of having abused their authority by not blocking online gambling sites for personal gain.

Minister of Trade Meutya Hafid said, within a maximum of 7 days since the National Police issued a detention letter, the Ministry of Communication and Trade employees involved will be temporarily dismissed. If the legal process has reached an inkrah status or a final decision, the Ministry of Education and Trade employees who are found guilty will be dishonorably dismissed.

"The Ministry of Communication and Trade will monitor the progress of this case and take other steps if other employees are found to be involved," said Meutya Hafid in her official statement, Monday (4/11/2024).
