Having A Capacity Of 2,290 MW, PLTGU Muara Offers To Become A Peaker Power Plant
JAKARTA - Muara Tawar's Steam Gas Power Plant (PLTGU) belonging to PLN Nusantara Power brings an important and significant role in maintaining the reliability and stability of the electricity system in Indonesia, especially in the Java-Madura-Bali (Jamali) region.
With an installed capacity of 2,290 megawatts (MW), this PLTGU is one of the backbones of the national electricity supply.
PLN Nusantara Power President Director Ruly Firmansyah said PLTGU Muara Tawar acts as a peaker generator, which is a generator that is operated to meet electricity needs at peak load. The ability to respond quickly from its gas turbines allows this plant to operate immediately as electricity demand increases sharply, thereby maintaining the stability of electricity supply.
"In addition, this PLTGU is also equipped with a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Plant facility that supports the restoration of the Jamali electricity system when there is a disturbance or blackout," he said in a statement to the media, Wednesday, November 20.
He added that the vital role of PLTGU Muara Tawar in maintaining the electricity system in Java and Bali, especially around the Jakarta area, was maintained. According to him, this generating unit is a milestone in ensuring that the ring 1 area remains on.
"PLN NP is committed to maintaining the electricity system, especially in producing electricity used in the DKI Jakarta area, such as in supporting the electricity needs of the VVIP area, especially the DPR Building, MPR, Ministry, and Presidential Palace," explained Ruly.
Through continuous production of quality electricity, PLTU Muara Tawar has also succeeded in the success of various important state events from year to year. All personnel at PLTGU Muara Tawar are also on standby for the success of the ASEAN KKT which took place in November.
In terms of operations, PLTGU Muara Tawar managed to maintain performance with indicators of readiness of generating units above 90 percent, in accordance with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) international standards. This reliability is inseparable from the readiness and quality of qualified human resources in managing and maintaining generating performance.
"On the other hand, PLTGU Muara Tawar also supports the energy transition in Indonesia. It is one of the pioneers in producing green hydrogen in Indonesia," added Ruly.
This green hydrogen made by PLN NP, such as at PLTGU Muara Tawar, is produced using a source from the solar power plant (PLTS) in the power plant area.

In addition to being produced from PLTS installed, this green hydrogen also uses Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) from several EBT plants in Indonesia.
With these various strategic roles, PLTGU Muara Tawar continues to contribute significantly in supporting the reliability and stability of the national electricity system, ensuring reliable electricity supply for the community and industry in Indonesia.
