The Indonesian National Team Is Waiting For The 2024 AFF Cup Intensive Schedule

JAKARTA - The Indonesian national team closed the trip on matchday six of the 2026 World Cup Qualification Third Round by beating Saudi Arabia 2-0.

After that, it does not mean that the Garuda Squad's struggle is over because they have to continue their journey in the 2024 AFF Cup.

The 2024 ASEAN Championship, known as the 2024 AFF Cup, will run from 9 December 2024 to 5 January 2025. The agenda for this Southeast Asian football tournament will be the next event for the Indonesian national team.

Although often considered as one of the great powers of Southeast Asian football, the Indonesian national team has not been able to win the AFF Cup.

So far, the Garuda Squad has only been able to finish the best as runners-up in the AFF Cup six times.

For the 2024 AFF Cup, the Indonesian national team joins Group B with Vietnam, the Philippines, Myanmar, and Laos.

If you refer to the regulations, there will be no permanent hosts in this tournament. For the group phase, each country has the opportunity to host twice.

The Garuda squad will first visit Myanmar headquarters in the first match, namely at the Thuwunna Stadium, Yangon, on December 9, 2024, at 17.00 local time or at 17.30 WIB.

Three days later, the Red-White Team will return to the country and host Laos. The match is planned to be played at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), Jakarta, at 20.00 WIB.

For the third party, Marselino Ferdinand and colleagues are waiting for a fairly tough agenda, namely traveling to Vietnam.

This match will be held at the Viet Tri Stadium, Phu Tho City, on December 15, 2024, at 20.00 WIB.

Then, for the final group stage match, the Garuda squad will return to JIS to face the Philippines on December 21, 2024, at 20.00 WIB.

Indonesia's advantage will be because it gets longer rest time than the opponent.

If they manage to escape the group stage with the condition that they occupy the top two positions, the Indonesian national team will play in the semifinals with a home and away system.

The semifinal leg 1 match will be held on 26-27 December 2024 followed by leg 2 on 29-30 December 2024. While the final leg 1 match will be played on January 2, 2025 and leg 2 on January 5, 2025.

Several players who used to strengthen the Indonesian national team, such as Marselino Ferdinand (Oxford United/England), Pratama Arhan (Suwon FC/South Korea), Asnawi Mangkualam (Port FC/Thailand), and Hokky Caraka (PSS Sleman) entered the squad.

There are also players who have been called Shin Tae-yong in Indonesia U-19, such as Cahya Supriadi (Bekasi City), Zanadin Fariz (Persis Solo), Erlangga Setyo (PSPS Pekanbaru), Alfriyanto Nico (Dewa United), Ronaldo Kwateh (Muangthong United/Thailand), and the Persib Bandung trio namely Kakang Rudianto, Ferdiansyah, and Roby Darwis.

In addition, there are also other potential young players, such as Kadek Arel (Bali United) and Iqbal Gwijangge (Barito Putera) who are the newest mainstay of Indonesia U-19 by Indra Sjafri.

The other two names that have been announced are Bali United players, namely Made Tito and Rahmat Arjuna, who have performed well in Liga 1 this season.
