Dejan/Gloria Refuse To Fall In The Same Hole

JAKARTA Mixed doubles Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja refused to fall into the same hole in two consecutive weeks.

That determination led them to win over host pair Zhang Han Yu/Yang Yia Ji in two straight games 21-17 and 21-12 in the first round of the 2024 China Masters on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.

"After losing in the first half last week, we were better prepared for each other. Building mentally, mentally, confidently, and confidently," Gloria said after the match.

Last week, Dejan/Gloria who were in a good trend and became the fifth seed surprisingly lost in the first round of the 2024 Kumamoto Japan Masters.

In fact, in the previous three tournaments, they reached the semifinals at the China Open once and then runners-up in a row at the Macau Open and the 2024 Korea Masters.

In this latest performance, Dejan/Gloria were only complicated by their opponents in the first game. The pair then appeared to dominate the match from start to finish in the second game.

"Adaptation with the field is quite good. This is one of the best arenas in China that I have ever felt. The arena is very large and the wind direction is normal," said Dejan.

In the second round, Dejan/Gloria will face Danish representatives, Jesper Toft/Amalie Magelund. The pair escaped after beating Wu Hsuan Yi/Wang Chu Yun from China Taipei.

Dejan/Gloria are the only mixed doubles to play in this event. Thus, the hope of the title from that number is entirely on their shoulders.
