Victoria's Victory Reaps Controversy, Miss Thailand Is Considered More Eligible To Win In Miss Universe 2024
JAKARTA - Victoria Kjnar Theilvig from Denmark was named the winner of Miss Universe 2024. This made her the first Miss Denmark to win the event on November 17, 2024.
However, the fans who were angry with the results immediately protested through social media. Many insisted that Miss Thailand, Suchata Chuangsri should get the crown.
Suchata, who is the third runner-up, stole the attention of the judges and spectators with impressive answers during the question and answer session. When asked about the quality of a successful leader, Suchata answered with empathy.
"Empathy, because it doesn't matter how good or how good education is, in the end you need empathy to care about people," said Suchata, quoted by VOI from the Daily Mail page on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.
However, after Miss Denmark was named the winner, many fans expressed their disappointment on social media. Many argue that Miss Thailand has been snatched away by her victory. One netizen said, "The answer is very precise and comes immediately!"
A similar statement also came from many other fans, who stated Miss Thailand should have won. They mentioned the first answer given by Suchata was the best. In fact, some added that Miss Nigeria and Miss Thailand were two participants who were completely seized from the crown.
"Miss Thailand was robbed of her crown," wrote the netizen.
"Miss Thailand was robbed and gave the best first answer," said another netizen.
"Miss Thailand was robbed of her crown! The answer to both questions is correct! I also agree with Miss Venezuela's answer to the first question! I'm not so sure what happened?," said another netizen.
"Miss Thailand was robbed, I completely agree with you, it's a pity the party didn't work for her this time." said another netizen.
Suchata herself decided to take part in beauty pageants as a way to raise awareness about breast cancer, after undergoing surgery to remove a 10-cm breast tumor at the age of 16.
The girl who is fluent in Thai, English, and Mandarin was born in Phuket on September 20, 2003. Her family runs a hotel business on the island.
Before entering the world of beauty pageants, Suchata was a model and participated in the Miss Rattanakosin event in 2021. At Miss Universe Thailand 2022, she won the third runner-up position and received the Miss Natural Beauty award.
At the Miss Universe 2024 event, Miss Nigeria, Chidimma Asetshina, who is also one of the fans' favorites, made history as the first Nigerian to reach the runner-up position in Miss Universe's history.
Previously, Chidimma had participated in the Miss South Africa event but resigned after receiving criticism regarding her citizenship and the alleged document issue from the South African Department of Internal Affairs regarding her mother. After that, she was invited to participate in Miss Universe Nigeria and managed to get out victorious.
During the question and answer session, Chidimma was asked, "Which one is more important, liked or respected, and why?". He also replied, "We live in a society where we often feel disrespected for who we are, and I feel that when you respect yourself, you will also respect others around you".
