KKP Sends Food-Food Assistance Worth IDR 636 Million To Mount Lewotobi Eruption Refugees

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) sent assistance to residents affected by the eruption of Mount Lewotobi in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

The total aid distributed was IDR 636 million which was divided into two delivery stages.

"We express our deepest condolences to the brothers who were affected by the eruption of Mount Lewotobi. We have handed over the first phase of the aid package to our brothers and sisters in Flores today," said Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono as quoted from the KKP official website, Wednesday, November 20.

In the first stage, the KKP sent aid in the form of food ingredients consisting of thousands of kilograms of rice and sugar, thousands of packages of staples, instant noodles to hundreds of snacks packages.

Then, thousands of clothing packages for adult and child refugees, accompanied by mattresses, blankets, toiletries and masks. The KKP also provides assistance to elderly refugees and toddlers, such as formula milk and baby food.

Trenggono said that his party also facilitated the delivery of 1.8 tons of fish raised by stakeholders. He also appreciated the role of stakeholders who have helped meet the nutritional needs of the displaced communities.

By eating fish, Trenggono believes that the refugees' immune system will be stronger so that they are not susceptible to disease.

For your information, the first thousands of aid packages from the KKP and 1.8 tons of fresh fish were then transported using two monitoring vessels KP Orca 06 and KP Hiu Macan 03 from Kupang which departed on Sunday and Monday.

The sea trip from Kupang to Larantuka, East Flores Regency, took 8 to 12 hours.

The handover of aid packages was led by Acting Head of the General Bureau and PBJ KKP Miazwir together with the Director of Marine Resources Supervision of the Sukono KKP to the Acting Regent of East Flores, Sulastri, at the Disaster Response Post.

The next aid was sent to the evacuation sites of Konga, Lewolaga and Eputobi. The team also directly inspected the refugee camps in Konga Village and Lewolaga Village, East Flores Regency.
