Donny Arsal is considered a leader who is committed to encouraging the use of alternative fuels as a substitution of coal in production activities to present low-carbon environmentally friendly cement products, as well as participating in global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions which are the causes of climate change and global warming.
The Top CEO of the Indonesia Awards 2024, which carries the theme Inspiration, Innovation and Integrity: The Role of CEOs in Sharing Indonesias Economic Success, is a place of appreciation and appreciation for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of public companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). A total of 51 CEOs were given appreciation because they were considered successful in leading the company with extraordinary performance and sustainability programs throughout 2022-2023. They also succeeded in increasing assets, equity, income, and net profit, as well as implementing programs that support environmental, social, and community sustainability.
GIS President Director, Donny Arsal said, the use of alternative fuel in SIG factories is carried out with circular economic principles through the utilization of agricultural waste, industry, solid waste, urban solid waste (municipal solid waste) which is processed into refuse-derived fuel (RDF), biomass and other sources. This initiative is proof of SIG's concern for environmental sustainability, as well as the Company's participation in efforts to achieve the net zero emission target by 2060.
The 2024 Top CEO of the Indonesia Awards is an appreciation for the good cooperation between management and all employees, solid support from the GIS Board of Commissioners, as well as directions from the Ministry of SOEs in realizing Sustainable Development Goals in Indonesia. This award further motivates SIG to continue to carry out energy conservation through energy consumption effectively and efficiently, as well as increasing the use of alternative energy sources," said Donny Arsal, in his statement, Tuesday, November 19.
In addition to helping Companies reduce dependence on fossil fuels, the use of alternative fuels also has a positive impact on multiplier effects, both from economic, social, and environmental aspects. RDF for example. In addition to contributing to reducing GRK emissions, RDF is also a solution to reduce problems caused by urban solid waste such as land constraints for Final Disposal Sites (TPA), unpleasant odors, and disease disorders in the community.
On the other hand, the use of biomass as an alternative fuel is also a solution in reducing agricultural waste that has the potential to cause methane gas if it is allowed to be degraded. The use of biomass also provides economic benefits for the community, especially farmers, in the form of additional income.

With this initiative, SIG succeeded in substitutioning coal in cement production so that the TSR ratio was reached by 7.27 percent.
