Minister Of Home Affairs Says Ratification Of The DKJ Law Strengthens Jakarta's Position Regionally And Globally
JAKARTA - The Indonesian House of Representatives has officially ratified the Revision of Law Number 2 of 2024 concerning the Province of the Special Region of Jakarta (DKJ) at the 8th Plenary Meeting of the DPR for Session I 2024-2025, Tuesday, November 19.
The Minister of Home Affairs, M Tito Karnavian, said that the ratification of the DKJ Law would strengthen Jakarta's position after it was no longer the nation's capital.
"As we understand that the DKJ Province so far, we have heard that as a Special Capital Region, it will undergo a transition to a special area for Jakarta, and will strengthen its position regionally and globally," Tito said when conveying the government's final views at the plenary meeting, Tuesday, November 19.
In the transition process, Tito continued, of course there are legal consequences that will occur and need to be anticipated together. Therefore, according to him, this legal product in the form of the DKJ Law is also to provide certainty about the transition to governance.
"We are grateful for the initiative of the DPR RI through the Legislation Body of the DPR RI to propose a amendment to Law No. 2 of 2024 concerning the provinces of the Special Region of Jakarta as well as to identify legal loopholes in the transition process of government administration," said Tito.
Amendments or revisions to the DKJ Law agreed to be brought to the plenary meeting after adding 4 articles discussed at the DPR Baleg with the government and DPD RI on Monday, November 18, evening.
