Davis Cup Champion Motivated Alcaraz For Rafael Nadal
JAKARTA Carlos Alcaraz is motivated to win the 2024 Davis Cup to mark a breakup from his senior, Rafael Nadal, who will retire after the event.
Nadal, who won the Grand Slam 22 times, will retire from tennis after representing Spain in the 2024 Davis Cup which took place in Malaga this week.
Alcaraz said that winning the title with Spain would be very special for him. Moreover, this is the last competitive event Nadal has played.
"Knowing that this is his last tournament, will make this much more special," Alcaraz was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
Spain will face the Netherlands in the quarter-finals on Tuesday, November 19, 2024. Nadal and his friends will try to add to the sixth title, which Nadal previously won.
Alcaraz is recorded to have made his Davis Cup debut in 2022, three years after Spain last won the title from this prestigious event.
"This is probably the most special tournament. Davis Cup has always been a tournament that I want to win one day. I really want to represent Spain and there is Rafa on my side," said Alcaraz.
Alcaraz and Nadal previously played doubles at the 2024 Paris Olympics. At that time, the couple's journey was stopped in the quarter-finals.
Nadal will retire as the second most successful men's singles player of all time. He is behind his old rival, Novak Djokovic, with a collection of 24 Grand Slams.
